Kano residents pour to the streets, reject ECOWAS military force in Niger Republic
Protesters have poured out into the streets to demonstrate their rejection of the activation of the standby military force against Niger Republic by the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS)
ECOWAS had, on Thursday, directed military forces of the Member States to be on standby for the restoration of democratic rule in the neighbouring West African nation.
Consequently, the protesters took to the street of Kano to show their anger and rejection of the planned use of force to restore ousted President Mohamed Bazoum to power in Niger Republic.
During a procession in the city of Kano, the protesters also displayed Nigeria and Niger’s flags, chanting anti-war songs and moving around the state capital.
The protesters chanted words like “Nigeriens are our brothers”, “Nigeriens are also our family’. “Niger is ours; we don’t want war; war against Niger is injustice, a plot by the Western forces.”
