Kano Gov. Abba Yusuf, lawmakers formally defect to APC today

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State will formally join the All Progressives Congress (APC) today, Monday.

This follows his resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) last Friday, as announced in a Sunday statement by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature.

The Governor is expected to register alongside 22 state lawmakers, eight federal lawmakers, and 44 local government chairmen.

He will also launch the APC’s e-registration exercise in the state.

In explaining the move, Governor Yusuf stated that his administration’s priority is the ‘Kano Agenda’, which he places above personal or group interests.

He asserted that his intention is solely focused on Kano’s development and citizens’ welfare, and that aligning with the APC will strengthen cooperation with the Federal Government to accelerate development, enhance security, and improve service delivery.

Speaking at a Motorcycle Empowerment Programme for social media influencers in Kano, the Governor declared that the era of disrespectful statements against leaders was over, advocating for unity, mutual respect, and economic prosperity.

On the 2027 elections, Yusuf said he would concentrate on developmental projects, leaving leadership to God’s decision.

Separately, hundreds of supporters visited the Kano residence of NNPP leader Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on Sunday in a show of solidarity. In a post on his verified X account, Kwankwaso thanked the visitors from Nasarawa Local Government for their loyalty and reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing the ideals of his political movement, Kwankwasiyya.
