Kano APC adopts defecting Gov. Abba Yusuf as consensus candidate for 2027
The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has adopted Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as its consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
This follows the governor’s defection from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the APC, which was formally concluded with his registration as the party’s number one member in the state.
The adoption was announced by the immediate past national chairman of the APC and former governor of Kano, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, during the flag-off of the party’s e-registration exercise at the Government House.
Ganduje stated that all other contenders for the governorship candidacy had relinquished their ambitions in support of Yusuf’s second term.
He further declared that the loyalty of the party’s members in the state is now with Governor Yusuf as the leader of the APC in Kano, in line with the party’s policy that governors serve as leaders in their respective states.
Governor Yusuf defected to the APC alongside a mass realignment involving 34 lawmakers, 44 Local Government Chairmen, and numerous political appointees.
He cited the need to collaborate with President Bola Tinubu to accelerate development and deliver democratic dividends, describing the move as a choice for progress.
In a related development, Mustapha Kwankwaso, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, resigned from the State Executive Council. In his resignation letter, he cited his father’s—NNPP national leader Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso—disapproval of Governor Yusuf’s defection to the APC.
He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and offered prayers for the state’s youth and continued progress.
Northern Nigerian Youth Forum pledges N200m for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid
The Northern Nigeria Youth Leaders Forum (NNYLF) has donated N200 million for the purchase of the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination form for President Bola Tinubu’s anticipated re-election campaign in 2027.
The forum also formally endorsed Tinubu for a second term.
The donation and endorsement were announced at a high-level youth leadership and stakeholders’ engagement held in Abuja on Monday, January 26, 2026.
A communique issued by the forum’s national leader, Murtala Garba-Gamji, and director of operations, Dr. John Agbana, stated the endorsement was driven by a desire for policy continuity, reform consolidation, and long-term national development.
While presenting a dummy cheque to the Tinubu Support Group (TSG), Garba-Gamji stated the gesture demonstrates the commitment of northern youths to the president’s re-election.
He cited Tinubu’s projects in infrastructure, security, and agriculture across the north as reasons for their support and expressed confidence that Tinubu would receive the highest votes from the region in 2027.
The forum called on young Nigerians to engage constructively in nation-building and urged stakeholders to collaborate with credible youth-led platforms. It also launched the “Renewed Hope Ambassadors” initiative.
In his remarks, the Director-General of TSG, Dr. Umar Tanko-Yakasai, welcomed the support.
He emphasized a principle of regional reciprocity, stating that as the South supported the North for eight years under former President Muhammadu Buhari, it is now the North’s turn to support Tinubu and the South to complete an eight-year administration
