It May Not Be God’s Will for You to Be President, Atiku told

The Presidency has suggested that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar should accept that it may not be divine will for him to lead Nigeria, urging him to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration instead.

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, made the remarks during a TVC interview on Monday, addressing political succession and opposition dynamics.

Bwala advised Atiku to recognize destiny and work with Tinubu for national progress.

“If I meet him, I’ll say: ‘Your Excellency, believe in destiny. God gives power to whom He chooses, and the facts suggest it may not be His will for you to govern Nigeria,’” Bwala stated.

He urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart to contribute to nation-building under Tinubu’s leadership, emphasizing that legacy could be achieved “even through another person.”

“You and Tinubu have been friends for years—collaborate to build the Nigeria you both envisioned. Insisting on running again may lead to an unflattering political end,” Bwala cautioned, noting that Atiku has already lost 60-70% of his political base to defections.

The comments follow a wave of opposition defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Atiku had previously expressed uncertainty about a 2027 bid, stressing the need for a “viable platform.”

Bwala’s message underscores the administration’s appeal for opposition unity while hinting at dwindling prospects for Atiku’s presidential ambitions.
