Inzaghi Hails ‘Extraordinary’ Al Hilal After Stunning 4-3 Win Over Man City in Club World Cup
Al Hilal manager Simone Inzaghi praised his team’s “extraordinary” performance after their thrilling 4-3 victory over Manchester City in the Club World Cup Round of 16 early Tuesday morning.
Bernardo Silva gave City an early lead, but Al Hilal fought back with Marcos Leonardo’s equalizer before Malcom put them ahead in the 52nd minute. Erling Haaland leveled for Pep Guardiola’s side, forcing extra time, where Kalidou Koulibaly’s header restored Al Hilal’s lead.
Phil Foden struck again to make it 3-3, but Leonardo’s late winner sealed a historic win for the Saudi Arabian side.
Inzaghi lauded his players, saying, “We knew we had to do something extraordinary to beat Manchester City, and the boys delivered. The lads were simply wonderful—climbing Everest without oxygen. They were exceptional in every phase of the game.”
Al Hilal will now face Fluminense in the quarter-finals after the Brazilian side’s 2-0 win over Inter Milan.
