INEC Resumes Nationwide Voter Registration for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the commencement of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

In a Friday statement on its official X account, INEC disclosed that online pre-registration will begin on Monday, August 18, 2025, via its portal: cvr.inecnigeria.org. In-person registration will follow a week later, starting Monday, August 25, 2025, at all INEC local government offices and designated centers nationwide. The exercise will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

The commission called on eligible Nigerians, especially first-time voters and those who missed previous registrations, to participate.

“This exercise is open to Nigerians who have just reached voting age or could not register before. We encourage eligible citizens to start online or visit our offices once physical registration begins,” the statement read.

INEC clarified that the CVR also covers voter card transfers, replacements for lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and updates to personal details like names and dates of birth.

Reiterating its dedication to fair elections, INEC stated: “We are committed to ensuring every eligible voter can participate. Our focus is on making registration accessible, transparent, and inclusive.”
