INEC Pledges Real-Time Transmission of Results for FCT Elections

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), has assured voters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that all election results will be transmitted in real time from polling units during the upcoming polls.

Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja following an assessment of three Area Councils—Kuje, Gwagwalada, and Bwari—Amupitan expressed satisfaction with the commission’s preparedness for the elections slated for Saturday, February 21, 2026.

He reaffirmed that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BiVAS), which has facilitated real-time result transmission since its inception, will guarantee accurate and seamless reporting of election outcomes.

“The report we received has been verified, and I am pleased with the level of readiness. In Kuje, they reported 99.9% preparedness; Gwagwalada, 90.8%; and Bwari, 100%. There is no excuse for malfeasance. We are fully committed to delivering a credible election,” he stated.

Amupitan emphasized that a credible electoral process hinges on the timely distribution of materials, adequate security for voters and officials, and the effective use of technology for result transmission.

He reiterated INEC’s resolve to maintain high standards and uphold the integrity of the elections.

“We are determined to tackle voter apathy and fulfill the expectations of Nigerians. Security personnel and polling officials must be in place by Friday to ensure seamless deployment on Saturday morning, enabling timely commencement of voting and prompt transmission of results,” he added.

Providing updates on the level of preparedness in their respective councils, Kuje Electoral Officer (EO) Adamu Yakubu reported 99.9% readiness, Gwagwalada EO Bola Abdullahi confirmed 90.8%, and Bwari EO Gloria Adeboye declared full readiness at 100%.

Joining Amupitan on the inspection tour were senior INEC officials, including FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Aminu Idris, FCT Commissioner for Operations Mallam Tukur Yusuf, and the Acting Director of the Electoral Institute, Prof. Sani Ibrahim.

With electoral materials already in place and technology fully tested, INEC has vowed to conduct an election that is both credible and transparent, aimed at restoring voter confidence in the process.
