How Mbeumo fires brace as Man United see off Brighton in thriller

Manchester United secured their third consecutive Premier League victory in an entertaining 4-2 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford, with new signing Bryan Mbeumo highlighting the squad’s “togetherness” as the key to their recent resurgence.

The home side weathered early pressure from Brighton before breaking the deadlock in the 25th minute. Matheus Cunha, scoring his first goal for the club, sent Old Trafford into raptures by finishing a clever pass from Casemiro.

United dominated the first half and extended their lead in the 34th minute when a shot from Casemiro took a deflection to beat Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.

United picked up where they left off after the break, and Bryan Mbeumo gave the hosts a commanding three-goal cushion.

However, a Danny Welbeck free-kick and a late header from Brighton’s Charalampos Kostoulas set up a nervy finale.

Mbeumo settled any doubts in the 96th minute, completing his brace to seal a 4-2 victory that lifts United to fourth in the Premier League table.

After the match, Mbeumo, whose double capped a fine team performance, spoke about the growing understanding within the squad.

“I enjoy it a lot here,” he said. “It hasn’t been easy at the start, it’s a new environment, new expectation, but with my link-up with my team, everything is going the right way.”

When asked to pinpoint the reason for the team’s improved form, the Cameroonian international pointed to the collective spirit.

“The work we put in, the effort, the togetherness is the key,” he explained.

“We try to stick to the plan and try to play as best as possible. I like the challenges, I came here to a big club and I want to fight for the best places.”
