A group operating under the aegis of Citizens Network for Peace and Development in Nigeria (CNPDN), Thursday expressed joy over the emergence of the former governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu as president-elect.

A statement by the group, who are kinsmen of the former President Goodluck Jonathan, in Abuja, expressed optimism that Tinubu will unite the country for good.

The statement, which was signed by the National Secretary, Francis Wainwei, said they campaigned Tinubu and held several press conferences in Abuja and Rivers urging Nigerians to vote for Tinubu.

The statement reads: “The Citizens Network For Peace and Development in Nigeria wholeheartedly congratulates the President-elect, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Vice President-elect, Sen. Kashim Ibrahim Shettima on their well-deserved victory at the 2023 presidential election.Your pair is the best for Nigeria at this moment.”

According to the group, Tinubu has the capacity and competence needed to entrench the fundamentals of democratic governance in the country.

They recalled that the president-elect in times past struggled for enthronement of democracy at the risk of his life, hence, he would advance the course of democracy in Nigeria.

“Now that the mantle of leadership has been handed to you by the long-suffering Nigerian masses, so much is expected from you by the masses of this country.

“As a true democrat and advocate of the welfare of the masses, we are incurably optimistic that your administration shall truly belong to the masses.”

They urged Tinubu to focus on the welfare of the masses, adding that the group has structures across that country that would monitor and get feedback on the happenings in the country.
