FRSC embarks on nationwide exercise to impound rickety cars, arrest owners

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, is embarking on nationwide impounding exercise to the Nigerian roads of rickety vehicles.

Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Dauda Ali Biu, gave the latest directive for immediate clampdown on all rickety vehicles across the country.

The order was consequent upon a trending video of an old vehicle with mechanical issues plying the expressway with one of the back tyres off.

A statement by the Corps Public Enlightenment Officer, Bisi Kazeem, confirmed that the FRSC boss ordered an immediate clampdown on the vehicle and the arrest of the owner.

The statement said the vehicle, with Lagos registration number AA07AG, was not only old but was plying the highway with just three worn-out tyres.

Biu said the personnel of the agency had been directed to be on the lookout for the car and other unstable vehicles plying major roads in Nigeria, adding that the operation would be conducted nationwide.

He said FRSC will impose severe punishment on the owner and those using such vehicles.
