France’s sports minister, Amelie Oudea-Castera, said justice has finally come up in the trial of former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy.

She said this has offered him a new lease to restart his career at FC Lorient after he was cleared of rape allegations.

FC Lorient recently announced the signing of Mendy on a two-year deal, following the expiration of his contract with Man City earlier this summer.

Mendy was acquitted of all charges related to two counts of rape and one of attempted rape, last week after previously being cleared of six charges of rape and one of sexual assault in January.

Speaking to FranceInfo, Oudea-Castera said that justice has been served after Mendy was cleared of all rape allegations against him.

She said, “Now he is in sports rehabilitation after almost two years of his career and life being interrupted.

“Justice has been served, and we have to respect it. He has had two trials. And if, when you are acquitted, it generates the same suspicion as when you are accused, you lose your sense of justice.”
