Floods: 116 houses submerged at Trademore Estate in Abuja
At least 116 houses have been submerged at Trademore Estate, Lugbe, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency in the FCT indicated that the incident occurred as a result of the Friday morning downpour.
The Director General of the agency, Dr Abbas Idriss, who spoke during a vidit to the scene, noted that no life was lost as results of the incident.
He also said the floods were caused by infractions on the water channel and appealed to residents whose houses are built on the water channel to relocate.
According to the FEMA boss, Trademore Estate is on the water channel and therefore vulnerable to floods.
He stated that the floods have receded, and therefore appreciated all stakeholders, residents and residents for their efforts and cooperation to ensure that no life was lost.
He dismissed as untrue social media reports alleging that a resident of the Estate was missing during the floods.
He stressed that Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, NIHSA, had predicted heavy floods in the FCT, this rainy season and appealed to residents of the Estate whose houses sit on the water channel to relocate.
The FEMA Boss urged residents to always use the 112 Emergency toll free number in the event of an emergency.
