Several people remain trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building on Oremeta Street in Ojodu-Berger, Lagos.

The under-construction structure caved in around 8 a.m. on Saturday, with emergency workers rescuing at least five individuals so far.

The building housed a restaurant on its ground floor. Witnesses claim the structure had shown signs of instability before the incident.

A patron of the restaurant said water leakage from the decking had been observed even without rainfall. Concerns were raised when an additional floor was being constructed, but no action was taken.

A local resident reported that a car, its owner, and his son were also buried in the collapse.

Dr. Damilola Oke-Osanyitolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), assured that responders were working to “reach ground zero” in search of survivors. Rescue operations are ongoing as crews clear debris to free those still trapped.
