First Lady foresees prosperous Nigeria as it becomes lender nation by 2026
In a speech delivered on Sunday in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, expressed a bold vision for the nation’s economic future.
She predicted that a time of great prosperity is ahead, declaring that Nigeria will advance to a position where it lends money to other nations.
Senator Tinubu made these remarks after receiving the chieftaincy title of Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua from the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
The event was part of the festivities commemorating the monarch’s 10th coronation anniversary and was attended by a host of prominent figures.
The distinguished gathering included former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the wife of the Vice President Nana Shettima, former First Lady Patience Jonathan, and state governors such as Ademola Adeleke of Osun, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun.
Traditional rulers like the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, and the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, were also present.
Upon receiving the honour, Senator Tinubu thanked the Ooni and the people of Ile-Ife.
She stated, “Nigeria’s joy has come… By 2026, Nigeria will be in prosperity; we will be lending to other nations.”
She emphasized that the administration of President Bola Tinubu would achieve milestones that would inspire wonder.
In his address, Ooni Ogunwusi acknowledged the First Lady’s consistent support and highlighted the significant role of former President Obasanjo.
The Sultan of Sokoto offered prayers for the Ooni’s long reign and for the nation’s leaders to guide the people rightly.
Governor Ademola Adeleke praised the Ooni for bringing a modern touch to royalty and elevating the global stature of Yoruba culture.
He affirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the vision of Ile-Ife as a cultural capital, citing ongoing infrastructure projects, including the area’s first flyover.
