Financial Hurdles Block Osimhen’s Manchester United Move, Club Eyes Cunha Instead

Victor Osimhen’s potential transfer to Manchester United has stalled due to the club’s financial constraints under the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). With strict limits on allowable losses over a three-year period, United have shifted focus away from the Nigerian striker, prioritizing Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Cunha as a more feasible signing.

The Red Devils are reportedly prepared to trigger Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause to strengthen their attack. Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray, would cost around £51 million, but his hefty wage demands—reportedly up to £330,000 per week after tax—have complicated any potential deal.

Earlier reports suggested that Osimhen, 26, had agreed to terms with United, including a staggering €20 million annual salary. Turkish journalist Ali Naci Küçük claimed both United and Juventus tabled offers worth £17.1 million net per year, which would have made the Napoli loanee the club’s highest earner. However, financial restrictions now make such a move unlikely.

Transfer expert David Ornstein confirmed that United remain focused on Cunha, though personal terms are still under negotiation. As an alternative, the club is also monitoring Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap, whose £30 million release clause becomes active only if Ipswich are relegated. Delap, also on Chelsea’s radar, is expected to finalize his future before the U-21 European Championship.

Despite the transfer uncertainty, Osimhen continues his stellar form, netting 30 goals and providing seven assists in 35 appearances this season. His performances keep him in the spotlight, but financial realities may delay any high-profile Premier League move.
