The Federal Government is moving to modify the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) to accommodate the exceptions of the University Transparency Accountability System (UTAS) and the Universities Peculiar Personnel Payroll System (UP3S).

UTAS is a payroll system developed by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for the payment of salaries and allowances of university lecturers, while UP3S was developed by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU).

UTA came for discussion during the meeting of the leadership of the House of Representatives led by Femi Gbajabiamila and the executive members of ASUU.

The rejection of UTAS as the payment platform is one of the reasons the union embarked on strike in February 2022.

University workers have condemned the anomalies associated with IPPIS in the payment of their salaries.

“The lecturers were told that the IPPIS will be modified to accommodate the peculiarities of UTAS. It will be too expensive to run two payment platforms concurrently” a source told The Punch.

The National Executive Council (NEC) is set to meet on Thursady to decide on the prolonged strike.
