FG Reports N769.1m Revenue from Army Barracks Metering Project

The Federal Ministry of Power has announced significant progress in its mass metering initiative across Nigerian Army formations, revealing that the project has generated N769.1 million in revenue between August 2024 and April 2025.

Launched in March 2024 with a budget of N40 billion, the project aims to eliminate estimated billing in military barracks.

The first phase began at the Ikeja Military Cantonment, headquarters of the 9th Brigade of the Nigerian Army, with subsequent phases to follow.

Despite initial challenges, including delayed fund disbursements, the ministry confirmed the project’s operational success.

In a statement issued by Bolaji Tunji, Special Adviser on Strategic Communication and Media Relations to the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, the ministry highlighted improved power supply and energy management in beneficiary barracks.

A letter from the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, commended the progress, noting near-completion of Phase One in Lagos (Ikeja), Enugu (Abakpa), Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, and select Abuja barracks.

Signed by Major General A.A. Fadayiro, the letter urged the contractor, De-Haryor Global Services, to accelerate work on subsequent phases.

Ashade Olatunbosun, CEO of De-Haryor Global Services, acknowledged early financial hurdles but reported significant momentum, with thousands of smart meters installed to enhance billing transparency and energy efficiency.

He attributed the revenue milestone to the Army’s satisfaction, prompting discussions to extend metering to more military facilities.

“This marks a major step in modernizing Nigeria’s energy infrastructure within public institutions,” Olatunbosun stated, reaffirming commitment to sustainable growth and accountability.

The initiative aligns with broader efforts to address power deficits and promote fiscal discipline through advanced metering solutions.
