Nigeria’s Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, disclosed this during a formal signing ceremony in Abuja on Friday.

Fagbemi revealed that $50 million of the recovered funds would be allocated, via the World Bank, to a rural electrification project, while the remaining $2 million would go toward expanding the Justice system and combating corruption through the International Institute of Justice.

The asset return highlights the growing partnership between Nigeria and the United States in the fight against corruption and the promotion of the rule of law.

Fagbemi also emphasized that this move aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to tackling corruption.

In his address, the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, urged the Nigerian Ministry of Justice to monitor and utilize the recovered assets effectively to benefit the Nigerian populace.
