FG declares Monday public holiday for Eid-el-Maulud

The Federal Government has declared Monday, September 16, 2024, a public holiday for the Eid-el-Maulud, which commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who declared the public holiday on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and across the world.

According to him, “I congratulate the Muslim Ummah both at home and in the Diaspora on this occasion.”

The minister called on the Muslim community and all Nigerians to embrace the values of patience, sacrifice, and resilience, urging them to use the occasion to pray for peace and the nation’s progress.

“I implore them to pray for enduring peace and a more prosperous egalitarian nation,” he added.

The statement reads, “The Federal Government has declared Monday, 16th September 2024, as a public holiday to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid, the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

“The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government and congratulated the Muslim Ummah, both at home and in the Diaspora, on this occasion.

“Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged Muslims, and by extension all Nigerians, to imbibe the spirit of patience, sacrifice, and resilience.

“While congratulating the Muslim Ummah, the Minister called on them to take the opportunity of this period to pray for enduring peace and a more prosperous and equitable nation.”
