FG begins two-week repair of damaged expansion joints on Kara Bridge March 10

Repair works on the damaged expansion joints along the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway are scheduled to commence on Monday, March 10, according to the Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Mr. Olayiwola Komolafe.

Speaking on Saturday, Komolafe confirmed that the maintenance will target the Kara Bridge outbound Lagos, specifically between Chainage 5+350 and 6+115. He stated that the project, authorized by the Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, is expected to last for two weeks, concluding on March 24.

During this period, a partial closure of the affected segment will be implemented, reducing the available road width for vehicles heading outward from Lagos. The ministry explained that this controlled closure is essential to allow engineers to safely replace the damaged expansion joints, thereby ensuring the bridge’s long-term safety and durability.

In light of the expected traffic disruption, motorists have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and consider alternative routes.

Komolafe provided specific alternatives for affected travellers:

· Motorists travelling from Ikorodu towards Mowe, Sagamu, and Ibadan are advised to use the routes through Shimawa or Mosinmi.

· Those coming from Lagos Island can utilize the Epe corridor, passing through Ijebu Ode to connect to Sagamu, Ibadan, and Mowe.

He also cautioned that the shortest route might not necessarily be the fastest during the repair period and urged all motorists to adhere to traffic management directives and exercise caution while navigating the work zone.
