FCT Police deploy 2,200 personnel, bomb squads for Christmas/New Year

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has mobilized a significant security contingent to ensure safety during the upcoming festive celebrations.

Commissioner of Police Miller G. Dantawaye announced the deployment of 2,202 personnel, along with Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units. The operation is designed to guarantee a peaceful and secure environment for all residents and visitors in Abuja.

Officers have been strategically positioned at key locations, including places of worship, recreational and event centres, major highways, and motor parks.

The force increased visibility policing and targeted patrols around identified crime hotspots, such as black spots, uncompleted buildings, and shanties.

To ensure bomb disposal sweeps, EOD teams will conduct routine checks at worship centres and other public gathering points, as directed by the Inspector-General of Police.

CP Miller reiterated the ban on fireworks, firecrackers, knockout (“banga”), and any similar explosive devices within the FCT. He urged the public to remain law-abiding and vigilant, encouraging prompt reporting of any suspicious activities or items to the police.
