Fayose Hails Tinubu for Sacking NNPC Boss, Kyari

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has praised President Bola Tinubu for dismissing Mele Kyari as the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
The president’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced Kyari’s removal on Wednesday, naming Bashir Ojulari as the new GCEO effective April 2, 2025. Tinubu also replaced the NNPC board chairman, Pius Akinyelure, with Ahmadu Musa Kida as Non-Executive Chairman.
Fayose, reacting via a post on X (formerly Twitter), described Kyari’s removal as “the smartest move ever” by Tinubu. He expressed hope that the change would improve the NNPCL’s operations and benefit Nigerians.
The former governor further urged the president to apply similar decisive actions against other corrupt systems in the country, stating: “This same courage to wield the big stick should also be extended to other systems as rotten as the NNPCL.”
The shake-up at the national oil company comes amid ongoing efforts to reform Nigeria’s energy sector under the Tinubu administration.
