Family of Peju Ogunmola clarifies cause of her son's death, debunks bathroom rumor

The family of veteran Nollywood actress Peju Ogunmola has officially corrected misinformation surrounding the death of her only child, Ayomikun Omobolanle, explicitly denying widespread online claims that he died in a bathroom accident in the UK.

In a statement released on Friday and signed by family spokesperson Yemi Amodu, it was confirmed that Ayomikun, also known as Sola, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State, following a brief illness. According to the family, he has since been buried.

The statement clarified, “We wish to clearly state that Sola did not pass away as a result of any bathroom accident, contrary to false reports being circulated online. He was briefly unwell and, during this period, received first-class medical care. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, he peacefully answered the call of his creator.”

The family strongly warned the public against spreading these false narratives, stating that the unfounded claims “not only dishonour his memory but also bring unnecessary pain to his loved ones.” They urged people to disregard the misleading stories.

The news of Ayomikun’s passing has deeply saddened the Nigerian film industry. Tributes from colleagues and fans have poured in, with actress Biola Adebayo describing the loss as “devastating and heartbreaking” in an Instagram post.

The Ogunmola family concluded their statement by expressing gratitude for the public support they have received and offered a prayer that no other family would have to endure such a profound and untimely loss.
