Ex-President Buhari’s Body Arrives in Katsina for Burial in Daura

The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari have arrived at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport in Katsina.
The body, draped in the Nigerian flag, was transported aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft and landed at approximately 1:59 pm on Tuesday.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and family members of the late former president accompanied the body. President Bola Tinubu personally received the remains at the airport, having earlier dispatched the vice president and his chief of staff to the UK to escort the body back to Nigeria.
The arrival was attended by Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda, members of the state executive council, 20 other governors, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibril, and other dignitaries.
Military officials carefully lowered the casket from the aircraft ahead of the scheduled burial proceedings.
The remains will be transported to Daura, Buhari’s hometown, where a military farewell will be held before the Jana’iza (funeral prayer) and interment at his residence.
Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris confirmed the arrangements on Monday, stating that President Tinubu directed condolence registers to be opened at all federal ministries, agencies, and Nigerian embassies worldwide.
An additional register will be available at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Idris noted that global leaders have continued to send tributes, reflecting Buhari’s international stature. “The outpouring of condolences from heads of state worldwide underscores President Buhari’s enduring legacy,” he said.
The former president passed away on Sunday in a London hospital.
