Mamman Ali
Ex-PDP Chairman’s Son, Mamman Ali, Jailed 14 Years for ₦2.2bn Subsidy Fraud
A Lagos Special Offences Court in Ikeja has sentenced Mamman Ali, son of former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman Ahmadu Ali, and oil marketer Christian Taylor to 14 years imprisonment for their involvement in a ₦2.2 billion oil subsidy scam.
The duo were convicted on multiple charges, including conspiracy to obtain money by false pretences, forgery, and using false documents, following a prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The offences violated the Advance Fee Fraud Act 2006 and Lagos State Criminal Law 2011.
Initially facing a 49-count charge, the case was later amended to 57 counts as the trial progressed. Both defendants had pleaded not guilty.
Prosecution counsel Seiduh Atteh revealed that Ali and Taylor fraudulently secured ₦1.48 billion from the Petroleum Support Fund by falsely claiming to have imported over 20 million litres of petrol (PMS) through Nasaman Oil Services Ltd—a transaction the court ruled never occurred.
The case was initially before Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo but was transferred to Justice Mojisola Dada after Onigbanjo recused himself.
Justice Dada admitted EFCC’s evidence, including documents and witness testimonies, before delivering her verdict.
In her ruling on Tuesday, Justice Dada declared that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt, condemning the defendants’ actions as a gross abuse of public trust.
