Erling Haaland’s father hints soccer will leave Man City as Pep Guardiola plans to quit

Erling Haaland’s father, Alf-Inge, has outlined the striker’s next move, indicating the soccer star may be moving away from Man City.

Erling Haaland has only been at Manchester City for a little over 18 months, but his impact has been nothing short of seismic.

The former Borussia Dortmund striker scored an incredible 52 goals in 53 games in his first season at the Etihad, playing an integral role as City won the Champions League for the first time to complete a historic treble.

The only downside for City is that there has already been plenty of speculation over when the Norwegian superstar will decide to embark on a fresh challenge, Mirror of England reports.

And comments made by the striker’s father, former City midfielder Alf-Inge, back in 2022 have only heightened fears that Haaland won’t be a long-term fixture at the Etihad. Speaking on the documentary ‘Haaland: The Big Decision’, Haaland senior hinted that his son would stay with the Premier League champions for “three or four years at the most” amid reports linking him with a dream move to Real Madrid.

Haaland Sr said: “I think Erling wants to prove his abilities in all leagues. Then he can stay there [Manchester City] for three or four years at the most. He could be, for example, two-and-a-half years in Germany, two-and-a-half years in England and then in Spain, Italy, France, right?”

It was outlined last year that a reported £150million release clause in the striker’s contract which was due to become active next summer had been cancelled as it was linked to the future of Pep Guardiola, who signed a contract extension until 2025 shortly after Haaland’s arrival.

However, the City manager hinted this week that he was unsure whether he would still be at the club beyond next year – just days after teasing he could sign a new contract.

When he was asked about his future plans on Wednesday, Guardiola was non-committal on signing another extension but stressed he felt “really good” just days after Jurgen Klopp announced he would soon stand down from his role at Liverpool.
