EPL: New Cole Palmer deal wrong, Paul Merson blames Chelsea

Chelsea FC have been blamed on the new Cole Palmer contract by former Arsenal Football Cub legend, Paul Merson.
Palmer had a stellar performance in 23/24 season, scoring 25 goals and providing 15 assists in 45 appearances, the Stamford Bridge landlords handed the player a two-year contract extension.
However, Merson in an interview with Sky Sports condemned the move by Chelsea FC to extend the contract of the 22-year-old winger which will see the player tied to the club for at least nine years.
Merson acknowledged the talent of the player but he argued that this season, for every team Chelsea faced, the first thing in the team talk of the opposing side will be ‘stop Cole Palmer playing’.
According to him,“They don’t know what they’re doing! I’m not being horrible but you’re talking about nine years’ time! How can you tell how he’s going to be in nine years’ time?
“He’s had an unbelievable season and he is a good player, but this season every team they face, the first thing in the team talk will be ‘stop Cole Palmer playing’ – that’s the thing now, he’s got that the whole time now.
‘‘And now you’re giving him a nine-year contract? Don’t get me wrong, I like him. But they’re giving these players seven, eight, nine-year contracts…”
