Eight people died, and eight others were injured in a tragic road accident on Sunday at Atura Bus Stop along the Badagry Expressway in Lagos State.
The crash involved a 16-seater commercial Mazda bus (KJA 811 YF) and a DAF truck (T1 4636 LA).
According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the bus driver lost control at high speed, leading to a fatal collision.
The impact killed eight passengers instantly, including the driver and conductor, while eight survivors were rescued with varying injuries.
A joint emergency response team—comprising LASTMA, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), police, and soldiers—swiftly evacuated the casualties to Badagry General Hospital.
LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, visited the scene, expressing condolences to grieving families and urging stricter road safety compliance. “This tragic loss could have been avoided with defensive driving and proper speed control,” he said.
He also highlighted Lagos State’s efforts to enhance traffic safety, including speed-limiting measures and emergency response strategies under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Agenda.
The accident follows another deadly crash in Ogun State, where 10 people died on Saturday at Ome Bridge near Ijebu Ode. Authorities continue to warn against speeding and reckless driving to prevent further tragedies.
