Eid-el-Kabir: Sultan calls for more prayers as Nigeria approaches 2027 elections

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called on Nigerians to step up prayers for the country ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that the nation requires leaders of integrity, vision, and God-consciousness to surmount its present difficulties.

The monarch issued the appeal during his Eid-el-Kabir message on Thursday, underscoring the need for spiritual introspection, national unity, and patriotism in the quest for a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.

As President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, the Sultan noted that Nigerians must continue to seek divine direction in the selection of credible leaders capable of tackling insecurity, economic hardship, and other pressing national issues.

“Our prayers are always the guiding light toward the choice of our leaders; therefore, we should sustain more prayers in our quest for the best country we desire,” he stated.

He emphasised that Nigeria’s advancement hinges not solely on political campaigns and elections, but on justice, sincerity, competence, and selfless governance.

The monarch further urged citizens to embrace the virtues of sacrifice, tolerance, obedience, and compassion associated with Eid-el-Kabir, pointing out that such qualities are vital for harmonious coexistence and national growth.

He offered prayers for lasting peace, unity, and prosperity across the nation, expressing hope that future celebrations would occur under improved economic and security conditions.

The Sultan also commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his efforts to enhance security and the welfare of Sokoto State residents, particularly the support extended to pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia for the 2026 Hajj exercise.

He likewise prayed for the safe return of all Nigerian pilgrims and appealed to leaders at all levels to prioritise the national interest and citizens’ well-being as the country draws closer to the 2027 elections.
