EFCC declares ex-minister Timipre Sylva wanted over alleged $14.8m fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Petroleum Minister and Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, wanted.

This declaration is linked to an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of $14,859,257.

According to the EFCC, these funds were allocated by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) to Atlantic International Refinery and Petrochemical Limited for a refinery construction project.

Sylva is suspected of involvement in a conspiracy and the dishonest conversion of this money.

The legal basis for the manhunt stems from a warrant granted by the Federal High Court in Lagos on November 6, 2025.

Justice D.I. Dipeolu authorized the EFCC, police, or any law enforcement officer to arrest Sylva so he can be brought before the Commission to answer to the alleged criminal offence.

The EFCC is urging anyone with information on Sylva’s whereabouts to report to any of its zonal offices, the nearest police station, or other security agencies.
