ECOWAS Dismisses Niger’s Allegations of Terrorism Sponsorship Against Nigeria
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) dismissed claims by Niger Republic accusing Nigeria and President Bola Tinubu of sponsoring terrorism.
In a statement, ECOWAS described the allegations as baseless and unsupported by evidence, highlighting Nigeria’s historic commitment to peace and security in West Africa and across the continent.
The regional body praised Nigeria’s leadership in initiatives like the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), which has been instrumental in combating terrorism and promoting stability.
“Such a generous and magnanimous country cannot be labeled a state sponsor of terrorism,” the statement asserted, urging Niger to prioritize constructive dialogue over unfounded accusations.
ECOWAS called on all member states to work collaboratively on regional challenges and avoid claims that could hinder peace and development efforts. Observers have also dismissed the accusations as frivolous, further validated by ECOWAS’s firm stance.
