The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the death of Gibson Reuben, a Dutch national and Managing Director of the Rivers State Cassava Project Limited, who drowned after his vehicle plunged into the Aleto-Eleme River during an attempted abduction.

SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the police spokesperson, stated that the incident occurred on Monday night when unknown gunmen ambushed Reuben’s vehicle, causing him to lose control and drive into the river.

While the mobile police personnel accompanying him managed to escape, Reuben’s body and vehicle were later recovered by a search party.

Commissioner of Police CP Olugbenga Adepoju has launched a manhunt for the kidnappers and visited the crime scene, vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice. Iringe-Koko urged the public to provide information to aid the investigation.

The deplorable condition of the Eleme-Refinery-Onne Road, currently under reconstruction, has made it a hotspot for kidnappings and robberies, particularly at night.
