DSS Confirms Biafran Separatist Leader Simon Ekpa Charged for Terrorism in Finland

The Department of State Services (DSS) has verified that Simon Ekpa, a prominent Biafran separatist leader, is now formally charged with terrorism-related offenses in Finland.

Ekpa, detained for nearly six months, was officially indicted on Friday following his arrest in November 2024 by Finnish authorities over alleged terrorist activities.

Prosecutors in Finland have accused him of “inciting terrorism and involvement in a terrorist group’s operations.” The charges, filed by Finland’s National Prosecution Authority, relate to “publicly urging crimes with terrorist intent and participating in a terrorist organization’s activities.”

The alleged offenses occurred between 2021 and 2024 in Lahti and are reportedly tied to Ekpa’s campaign for the independence of Nigeria’s Biafra region.

“The charges were submitted as planned on Friday morning,” the DSS stated, citing Vanguard. “The trial will take place at the Päijät-Häme District Court in Lahti, though a hearing date has not yet been scheduled.”

Additionally, the DSS revealed that Ekpa is alleged to have disseminated separatist propaganda from his residence in Lahti.
