Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and his deputy, Monday Onyeme, have officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

They were joined by former Governor and 2023 PDP vice-presidential candidate, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, as well as state commissioners and other major PDP stakeholders in Delta.

The announcement followed a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday.

Governor Oborevwori’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, confirmed the move, stating that the decision came after extensive consultations with political leaders and was made in the interest of Delta State’s long-term development.

Oborevwori, who was elected governor under the PDP in 2023, was formally received by top APC officials.

Political analysts view this defection as a significant realignment with potential implications for the 2027 general elections.
