Deadly New Year’s Attacks in the US: Suspected Terror Links Under Investigation
A 42-year-old male suspect intentionally drove a pick-up truck into a New Year’s crowd in New Orleans’ French Quarter, killing at least 15 and injuring over 30. The suspect died in a police shootout, which injured two officers. The FBI is probing his potential ties to ISIL after discovering a flag and improvised explosives in the vehicle and nearby locations.
In a separate incident, a Tesla Cybertruck explosion near Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on New Year’s Day killed the driver and injured seven others. Authorities suspect fireworks, gas tanks, and camping fuel caused the blast and are investigating possible links between the two events.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the attacks, offering condolences to the victims’ families and urging a swift recovery for the injured.
