Dangote Petroleum Refinery has launched a groundbreaking initiative to deploy 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks for nationwide fuel distribution, investing over N720 billion to cut logistics costs and save Nigerians an estimated N1.7 trillion annually.

The refinery will absorb over N1.07 trillion yearly in fuel distribution expenses, significantly lowering energy costs for over 42 million Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Starting 15 August, Dangote will deliver petrol and diesel directly to filling stations, industries, and bulk consumers, eliminating middlemen and reducing pump prices.

With Nigeria’s daily fuel demand at 65 million litres—45 million litres of PMS, 15 million litres of diesel, and 5 million litres of aviation fuel—the refinery’s free distribution model will save an estimated N45 per litre in logistics costs. The initiative includes building CNG refueling stations nationwide and is expected to create 15,000 jobs while reviving dormant filling stations.

The Presidency hailed the move as a major step in Nigeria’s gas-powered transport agenda.

Tosin Coker of the Presidential CNG Initiative (PCNGI) called it a “milestone,” while IPMAN praised Dangote for easing marketers’ logistical burdens.

Economists like Bismarck Rewane dismissed monopoly concerns, noting the scheme cuts parasitic middlemen and ensures uniform pricing.

Energy experts, including Kelvin Emmanuel and Ibukun Phillips, described it as a “revolution” that will boost rural access, curb smuggling, and stimulate economic growth.

This initiative underscores Dangote’s commitment to energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and Nigeria’s economic transformation.
