Dangote Denies Rivalry with NNPC, Pledges Collaboration for Nigeria’s Energy Security
Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive of Dangote Group, has dismissed claims of competition between his company and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), emphasizing their shared goal of ensuring energy security for Nigeria.
Dangote made the declaration during a courtesy visit to NNPC’s Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Bashir Bayo Ojulari, in Abuja on Thursday.
In a statement by NNPC’s spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, Dangote—who led a delegation from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals (DPRP)—reaffirmed his group’s commitment to partnering with NNPC’s new management to stabilize energy supply and boost national economic growth.
“There is no competition between us; we are not here to rival NNPC Ltd. NNPC is integral to our business, just as we are to NNPC. This is a time for cooperation between both organizations,” Dangote stated.
He also congratulated Ojulari and his management team on their appointments, expressing optimism in their ability to deliver on their mandates.
In response, Ojulari assured Dangote of NNPC’s commitment to a mutually beneficial partnership, blending healthy competition with strategic collaboration.
He praised NNPC’s workforce as highly skilled and dedicated professionals focused on creating value for Nigeria. Ojulari reiterated NNPC’s resolve to foster innovation and national prosperity through continued cooperation with the Dangote Group, particularly in ventures that offer commercial benefits for the country.
