Court stops impeachment process of Gov.  Fubara

A Rivers State High has stopped the state House of Assembly from going ahead with the impeachment process against the state Governor, Similayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu.

The court order will last for seven days, when both parties, tje Executive and the legislators are forbidden from taken any further action on the governor’s impeachment.

Earlier, the lawmakers had voted to go ahead to advise the Chief Judge of the state to investigate into the allegations of gross misconducts against Governor and his deputy with all the house members supporting the motion for investigation, with no abstention.

The lawmakers, which sat briefly in Port Harcourt, said the governor had not made any effort to reach out for political settlement of the crisis, and adjourned to a later date.

Earlier, the four members who appealed to the colleagues for political solution, rescinded their position.

Indeed, the impeachment notice accused Fubara of gross misconduct, citing allegations including the demolition of the Assembly complex, extra-budgetary spending, and defiance of a Supreme Court ruling on legislative autonomy.

Also, the Minority Leader of the House and representative of Omuma State Constituency, Sylvanus Nwankwo, had called on the Assembly to exercise restraint.

The House has given a 14 days window for the governor and his deputy to respond appropriately to the allegations of gross misconduct against the governor.
