Court sentences three kidnappers who murdered Olakunrin, Fasoranti’s daughter, to death

Three persons found guilty for the murder of Mrs Funke Olakunri, daughter of the Afenifere leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, have been sentenced to death by an Ondo State High Court on Friday.

The convicts are Awalu Abubakar, Muhammed Shehu and Adamu Adamu.

Mrs Olakunrin was murdered by the convicts along Benin-Ore-Shagamu Expressway in the Ore Odigbo Local Government Area of the state on July, 12, 2019 by on her way to Lagos State.

The presiding judge, Justice Williams Olamide, found the trio guilty of involving in murder, kidnapping and armed robbery and sentenced them to death.

The police had arrested the first set of suspects nine months after the deceased was killed.

Five more suspects were later arrested. They are Lawal Mazaje, Adamu Adamu, Mohammed Usman, Auwal Abubakar, and Muhammed Shehu.

The trial started in August 2020 with the additional five suspects; the total number of the defendants had increased to nine.

Frank Mba, then force public relations officer, who broke the news, said investigation revealed that the operation that led to the killing of Olakunrin was carried out by eight kidnap suspects.

He listed the suspects as Lawal Mazaje from Felele area of Kogi State; Adamu Adamu from Jada area of Adamawa State; Mohammed Usman from Illela area of Sokoto State; Auwal Abubakar from Shinkafi area of Zamfara State.
