Court grants El-Rufai access to Abuja medical facilities under ICPC supervision

The Federal High Court, Kaduna Division, has ruled that former Governor Nasir El-Rufai may receive medical treatment at facilities of his choice in Abuja whenever required.

El-Rufai was arraigned before the court on Wednesday. During the proceedings, his defence counsel made a compassionate plea requesting that the anti-graft agency allow the defendant access to dental and eye care at designated Abuja hospitals.

In response, the court granted the request and directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to convey El-Rufai, under strict supervision, to medical facilities including Mile Dental Clinic and Skipper Eye-Q Hospital, Abuja, as needed.

The court ordered that he be returned to custody immediately after each treatment.

At a previous hearing, El-Rufai had been granted bail set at ₦200 million with two sureties in the same amount.

The administrative bail earlier granted to the second defendant, Joel Adoga, was also adopted by the court.

Wednesday’s session was scheduled to hear El-Rufai’s motion seeking a variation of the earlier bail conditions. The prosecution counsel filed a counter-affidavit opposing the application. After arguments from both sides, the court adjourned the matter until Thursday (today) for a ruling.
