Court convicts ex-Gov Dariye for corruption too

The Federal High Court in sitting in Gudu, Abuja, found former Governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye, guilty of corruption and was accordingly sentenced on Tuesday, June 12, 2018.

Dariye, a serving Senator in the 8th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, was guilty of 15 counts out of the 23 counts offences preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC. The court freed him of eight counts.

Consequently, the presiding judge, Justice Adebukola Banjoko, sentenced Senator Dariye for corrupt practices when he was governor of Plateau State. He was said to have diverted N2 billion of the state’s Ecological Funds through his company, Retnan Ventures,. He was arraigned by the EFCC on July 13, 2007.

Plea for mercy by Dariye’s lawyer, Paul Erokor, was countered by the EFCC prosecuting lawyer, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, who insisted that the court should apply maximum sentence for Dariye for corruptly enriching himself as governor in Plateau State.
