Coach Chelle praises Super Eagles despite loss to Morocco at AFCON

Coach Chelle stated the Nigerian team fell below their usual technical standards, citing a lack of movement and intensity at critical moments.

“We were not at the same level as in other matches,” he said, stopping short of blaming fatigue.

Defensively, however, Nigeria remained solid, with Calvin Bassey delivering an outstanding performance at the back. Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali also impressed, including a superb one-handed save during the shoot-out.

The match was ultimately decided from the penalty spot, where missed attempts by Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemaechi proved costly. Morocco converted four penalties to secure their place in the final.

Looking ahead, Chelle urged his players to stay focused as they prepare for the third-place play-off against Egypt this Saturday in Casablanca.
