Civil Defence debunks alleged aiding of bunkers, others

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Gana, warned against indicting statements from community leaders that are supposed to applaud the efforts of the Corps in fighting vandals, oil thieves and illegal bunkers.

He made this assertion while reacting to the allegation by a community leader in Delta State alleging that the Corps’ personnel are aiding illegal oil bunkerers.

This was contained in a statement by the NSCDC PRO, Emmanuel Okey, on Wednesday in Abuja.

Gana reiterated that, part of his riot act to the Commandants in charge of states its to ensure that there is no compromise in the discharge of the Corps mandate especially in the protection of Critical Infrastructure and National assets such as oil and gas pipelines and its allies.

He stressed that, it took the Corps a long time to earned and put its name in the Guinness book of record as one of the security agency of Government noted for fighting corruption, therefore, the Corps cannot allow the same name to be rubbish or drag in the mud. ”We therefore charge anyone with evidence to come forward instead of castigating the efforts of the Corps drive. Our slogan still remains collect bribe and die, compromise and be kidnap,” he stated.

According to the Corps Chief Executive, although we have put our internal mechanism in place to checkmate every act of illegality for appropriate disciplinary measure to be taken considering the fact that perfection belongs to God.

However, we want to put the record straight by saying that the report is untrue, unfounded and misconstrued as the fact remains that the refusal of the Corps personnel to compromise their stand in allowing the community leaders and their associates to sabotage the nations economy brought about the allegations.

He stressed that, the Niger Delta region from onset its noted for vandalism, illegal bunkering, oil theft and illegal refinery which the Corps in line with other sister agencies have been working assiduously to clamp down on the perpetrators.

However, the Community, Traditional, Religious and Youth leaders are suppose to work hand in hand with the security agents in their localities in protecting the infrastructures by providing useful and timely information for the agencies to work with but because they are partners in crime sharing in the goodies from the vandals and illegal bunkerers, rather they connive with saboteaurs and concealed information from security agencies.

Nonetheless, no matter the false accusation, the Corps will never deter in executing its mandate of protecting the Nations infrastructures and bringing to book those involved in the act of vandalism and illegal oil bunkering no matter how highly place they may be. The law is no respecter of anyone as such persons are enemies of the state.

In similar vein, the Commandant of Delta State Mrs. Echendu Ego Sam decried that the Community leaders, youths and even highly placed personalities keep disturbing the operation of the Corps in the State by lobbying them to Compromise their stand in the fight against illegal oil bunkering, oil theft and illegal refinery.
