Indications are that the Department of State Services (DSS) invited Aishah Ahmad, the deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in charge of financial system stability because she had worked with suspended CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

A source close to the DSS indicated that Ms Ahmad was grilled as part of the current probe of the CBN under its suspended governor.

President Bola Tinubu had ordered an investigation into the activities of the apex bank following Emefiele’s suspension in June.

Nigeria’s secret police had invited Kingsley Obiora, a deputy governor of the CBN under Emefiele, for questioning during the investigations.

A source said Ahmad was invited to clear her name as investigations continue.

“In light of the ongoing investigation into the activities of the CBN, all senior officials of the Central Bank are being interviewed by the DSS and the appointed special investigator,” the DSS source said according to DailyTrust.

“The deputy governors are not exempted from this exercise and have all been called upon to provide essential information at different times. It is important to emphasize that this is a standard procedure aimed at assisting the ongoing probe.”

Ms Ahmad’s close family member, who was not authorised to speak on this matter, confirmed and clarified that the deputy CBN governor was home and safe.
