The Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria, ARCON, has filed a lawsuit against Meta Platforms Incorporated (the owner of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp) and its agent AT3 Resources Limited at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

A statement on Tuesday by the apex regulatory body for Nigeria’s advertising ecosystem, ARCON, said a declaration is being sought, among other things, that the continued publication and exposure of various advertisements directed at the Nigerian market through Facebook and Instagram platforms by Meta Platforms Incorporated without ensuring the same is vetted and approved prior to exposure is illegal, unlawful, and a violation of Nigeria’s advertising Law.

ARCON alleged that the Federal Government had lost revenue as a result of Meta Platforms Inc.’s continual distribution of unscreened adverts

ARCON is proposing a N30 billion penalties for the violation of advertising regulations and revenue loss resulting from Meta Incorporated’s continued broadcast of unlawful adverts on its platforms.

According to ARCON, the Internet media space is not governed by the Council. According to its founding Act, the company’s principal focus is on marketing and advertising communications on digital platforms.

The statement stated, in part, that ARCON will not permit unethical and irresponsible advertising on Nigeria’s advertising space.Jamb Result
