Give Alia of Benue
Benue, Plateau under foreign terrorist attacks – Gov Alia

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has raised the alarm over a new wave of violent attacks, describing them as more dangerous and coordinated attacks than previous clashes with traditional herders.
“We are now facing a second phase of violence—far deadlier and more strategic. Unlike the past conflicts with herders, these attackers operate differently, striking suddenly and vanishing,” Governor Alia stated.
He emphasized that Benue is “under siege,” with terrorists launching well-planned assaults before retreating to hidden bases.
Intelligence reports suggest these militants have hideouts in Taraba, Nasarawa, and neighboring Cameroon, exploiting porous borders.
“Their movements and attacks are clearly coordinated,” Alia added.
The warning follows similar concerns by Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, who revealed that many assailants do not speak any Nigerian language, raising suspicions of foreign involvement.
“Some are non-Nigerians, while others migrate from the northwest into Plateau and Bauchi,” Mutfwang noted, stressing the need for caution to avoid ethnic profiling.
The recent surge in violence—including April 2025 attacks in Bokkos and Bassa that left over 100 dead—echoes the 2023 Christmas Eve massacre in Plateau, where 150 were killed.
