Major-General Buba Edward, Director of Media Operations at the Defence Headquarters, said Bako Wurgi was apprehended during operations in the North-West and North-Central regions.

Wurgi, who was linked to the murder of a Sokoto monarch, later succumbed to gunshot injuries sustained during his capture.

“Despite his injuries, the arrested terrorist leader provided critical intelligence to support ongoing operations before his death,” Buba stated.

Hamisu Sale and Abubakar Muhammad were arrested during separate operations in the North-Central theatre. Both detainees are reportedly cooperating with authorities and sharing valuable insights about the terror network.

Major-General Buba emphasized that security forces are intensifying efforts to safeguard citizens during the festive season. “Troops are on high alert and have enhanced their readiness to counter terrorist threats, especially during the yuletide period. Robust operations targeting terrorist leaders are underway across various operational theatres,” he added.

During the week under review, troops reportedly neutralized 212 terrorists and apprehended 272 individuals linked to criminal activities.
