Bayelsa APC unites behind Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, Asari Dokubo also pledges support
In a major show of unity, members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, led by Governor Douye Diri, have formally endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027.
The endorsement was made during a well-attended special stakeholders’ meeting convened by Governor Diri in Yenagoa on Tuesday. Senator Konbowei Benson moved the motion, which was promptly seconded by former Deputy Governor Peremobowei Ebebi.
The gathering, which included key figures such as Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil) Heineken Lokpobiri, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Managing Director Sam Ogbuku, and APC Caretaker Committee Chairman Dr. Dennis Otiotio, marked the first expanded meeting since Governor Diri joined and became the party’s leader in the state in October 2025.
Governor Diri expressed his delight at the party’s unity, urging members to embrace forgiveness, humility, and consultative politics while setting aside divisive tendencies.
He asked those with political ambitions for the next election cycle to temporarily shelve them to focus on the collective goal.
“Let us truly be progressives,” Diri stated. “Whatever positions you want to contest for… please put it on hold for now. What should be uppermost is that we are all gathered here to make sure that President Tinubu returns for a second term.”
In his remarks, Senator Lokpobiri celebrated the newfound unity, stating the Bayelsa APC now has a single, indivisible objective to win all elective offices in 2027. Other speakers, including House Speaker Abraham Ingobere and former gubernatorial candidate David Lyon, praised Governor Diri’s inclusive leadership for uniting the party.
Separately, in Rivers State, the traditional ruler of Torusarama Piri in Degema, Asari Dokubo, also pledged his support for President Tinubu’s second-term bid. He made the commitment during a visit by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike to his palace.
Dokubo cited the president’s past support during his difficult times as the reason for his loyalty. “He stood by me… and it is now my turn to also stand by him and support him,” he said.
Minister Wike explained that his visit was to thank the community for their support and to discuss the reasons for backing Tinubu in the upcoming election. The meeting also included a minute of silence in honor of the late former Senator John Brambaifa.
