Atiku blames leadership failure for General’s killing,
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has publicly condemned the President Bola Tinubu’s administration for the capture and execution of Brigadier General Musa Uba by terrorists.
The accusation follows a claim from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) that they ambushed a military convoy in Borno State on Friday, killed four personnel, and later executed the senior officer after interrogation.
While the Nigerian Army had previously denied reports of the General’s capture as “fake news,” it has remained silent following ISWAP’s propaganda release.
In a statement on his social media platform, Atiku expressed being “deeply saddened and extremely shocked” by the news.
He characterized the incident as “one death too many” and a sign of a dangerous terrorist resurgence.
Atiku sharply criticized President Tinubu, alleging that the Commander-in-Chief is more focused on “decimating the opposition political parties” than on degrading terrorist capabilities.
He stated that security is the government’s primary responsibility and advised that if the President “cannot effectively secure Nigeria and Nigerians, he should admit his incompetence or resign.”
Outlining his own approach, Atiku claimed that if he were president, he would order the military to occupy any state under siege by armed groups until the area is fully cleared. He concluded by offering condolences to the Armed Forces and the family of the bereaved, expressing hope that the nation’s “dark period” would pass.
The silence from the Defence Headquarters, the Nigerian Army, and the Nigerian Air Force, many hours after ISWAP’s claim, has heightened concerns about the safety of frontline troops and the effectiveness of counter-insurgency operations in the region.
