ASUU rejects N10,000 varsity education levy, wants parents to join pressure on FG to do the needful

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has rejected the N10,000 payment proposal by parents of students to assist the Federal Government in the creation of more funds for universities.

The National Parent-Teacher Association of Nigeria had proposed a levy for each parent to pay N10,000 as they believe that it would in a way help in ending the strike.
They said they had submitted the proposal to the office of the education minister as they hoped for an audience.
They said the N10,000 would be paid by each parent as they said it was their own proposition, it would be paid by each parent per session, they said that would be their own contribution which is also separate from their statutory payments.
They called it parents support levies for universities.
However, Emmanuel Osodeke, who is the National President of ASUU, rejected the proposal, saying instead of proposing N10,000, the parents should join hands with them in putting more pressure on the Federal Government to attend to their demands.
He made this statement while speaking on Thursday on Arise TV Morning Show programme.
